Police said Friday they were investigating an East Anchorage assault late Thursday in which the suspect fired gunshots.
It was just before 11 p.m. when dispatchers received a call from someone in the 3200 block of Boniface Parkway reporting the gunshots, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said.
Officers found an injured 18-year-old man behind an apartment complex who had been struck in the head by an adult with handgun, she said.
"He was pistol whipped," Myren said.
The victim and witnesses told police a dark SUV had driven behind the apartments and after the driver got out, he fired a shot at the ground, Myren said. The man then struck the victim with the gun, fired another shot at the ground and left, she said.
The 18-year-old decided not to accept an ambulance ride to a hospital, Myren said. "He was bleeding but he declined medical attention."
Police had made no arrests as of midday Friday and declined to release a description of the suspect's vehicle.
