A volunteer diver on Wednesday found the remains of a Cordova man missing since Saturday when his boat capsized, Alaska State Troopers said.
The remains of Erman Fonzi, 34, were found in 20 feet of water in Deep Bay, troopers said.
According to initial reports, Fonzi and a friend decided to go fishing the night of the accident, troopers said. The men were staying with three other people in a cabin on Deep Bay, located on Hawkins Island just outside Cordova.
Their 5-foot boat capsized Saturday 50 yards from shore in Deep Bay, troopers said. The other man, 28-year-old Matthew Ward, also of Cordova, managed to make it to shore, troopers said. He last saw Fonzi go under the water about 40 yards from the beach.
Fonzi and Ward were not wearing life jackets, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
Troopers called off the search for Fonzi's body on Sunday.
The State Medical Examiner's Office has requested the body for an autopsy. A troopers investigation continues.
Troopers credited the help of the diver, who is also from Cordova.
