Kindergartners decorate shopping bags in holiday themes for the Fellowship in Serving Humanity (F.I.S.H.) food delivery program at a Day of Caring held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Campbell Elementary School in south Anchorage. Students researched and selected projects to help local agencies and individuals as part of the Social and Emotional Learning curriculum endorsed by the Anchorage School District. "It's all about the kids learning about their community and dedicating themselves to help," said principal Michelle Johansen. Classes made blankets for Providence Children's Hospital, holiday door hangers for the Anchorage Pioneer Home, scarves and other useful items, while others collected toys and made cards to go with them, or created place settings and decorated the bags for F.I.S.H.

John Sikes paddles his kayak through Kodiak, Alaska's St. Paul Harbor on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 during the Harbor Lights Festival. Hundreds of spectators walked the floats of St. Paul and St. Herman harbors to see about 40 boats whose crews decorated them for Christmas, reviving in part the city's annual lighted boat parade. Among the boats was Sikes', who used to attend the lighted boat parade and wanted to be part of this revival.

When that effort fizzled, the cabin came to the museum.

This visit almost didn't happen after a National Guard helicopter based in nearby Bethel, Alaska, intended to deliver Santa broke down, but a local air taxi company, Grant Aviation, donated the flight so children could visit Santa.
