Peggy McCracken was forced from her apartment in Mountain View by a fire on Thursday. McCracken made it out of the building ahead of the advancing flames with her two dogs Sweet Pea, shown, and Charlie Boy and the clothes on her back. Charlie Boy woke her up from a nap and McCracken said "if it wasn't for the puppy I wouldn't be standing her, I would be dead." Anchorage firefighters battled the fire that involved most of the Glynwood Manor apartment building at 221 Meyer Street in the Mountain View neighborhood of Anchorage, AK on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Kali the orphaned male polar bear cub from Point Lay, AK explores the enclosure outside the infirmary at the Alaska Zoo on Friday, March 22, 2013 in Anchorage, AK. The zoo plans to start daily public viewing of Kali on Saturday, March 23, 2013. There will be two opportunities to see the bear, a morning session from 11-noon and in the afternoon from 3-4. The polar bear cub is expected to be transferred to the Buffalo Zoo some time this spring where it will be introduced to a female cub at the Buffalo Zoo. The planned permanent home for Kali is the Saint Louis Zoo which is building a state-of-the-art polar bear exhibit which is expected to completed in 2015.

Special wreaths were placed for the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and Prisoner of War/ Missing in Action. The event is coordinated with laying of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery and over 800 locations across the country.

Kali the orphaned male polar bear cub from Point Lay, AK explores the enclosure outside the infirmary at the Alaska Zoo on Friday, March 22, 2013 in Anchorage, AK. The zoo plans to start daily public viewing of Kali on Saturday, March 23, 2013. There will be two opportunities to see the bear, a morning session from 11-noon and in the afternoon from 3-4. The polar bear cub is expected to be transferred to the Buffalo Zoo some time this spring where it will be introduced to a female cub at the Buffalo Zoo. The planned permanent home for Kali is the Saint Louis Zoo which is building a state-of-the-art polar bear exhibit which is expected to completed in 2015.

Beans was battalion commander of 2nd Scout Battalion, 297th Infantry, headquartered in Bethel before his retirement. As snow fell volunteers for Wreaths Across America placed Wreaths on the graves of fallen service members at Fort Rich National Cemetery on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Special wreaths were placed for the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and Prisoner of War/ Missing in Action. The event is coordinated with laying of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery and over 800 locations across the country.
