Printing diatribe was disappointing

It's disappointing to see ADN publish Paul Ryan's diatribe on Ms. Clinton. He and the GOP cannot find any positive to say about their candidate so they reiterate her mistakes over and over. At least she is able to learn, listen and is brighter, better educated and experienced.

Pot is not a play toy

"Smoking cannabis is safe" (Letters, July 15):
Cannabis is a drug. Like all drugs, its use can be problematic. Fed studies show about 9 percent of users become addicted. It is not a play toy. I would give it the same rules and respect as a beer.

A murderer is a murderer

There is no difference between a psychotic murderer who strikes out at random, killing innocent people out of a warped sense of revenge for wrongs they have suffered, and someone who commits the same murders under the delusion they are carrying out a just punishment in the name of some ideological cause.

Fireworks aren’t the only things that are launched on the Fourth of July

I live in Arizona and become disgusted when I see plastic water bottles thrown on a mountain trail. But cars launched and flying toward a beautiful scenic area to crash, rust and rot there are beyond belief. Who will clean up this toxic wreckage? Who is responsible? Can our planet survive the human race?

Red-light runners, take heed

My name is Annika. I get scared when people run red lights. Could you please tell people in the newspaper to not run red lights.

Business owner saves the day

Peter Denmark of Alaska Sea Kayakers saved our paddling trip. Loading our kayaks for an overnight trip into Blackstone Bay, we had no fuel bottle. Oops. I went to Alaska Sea Kayakers to inquire on renting a bottle. Peter, the owner/operator, met me with the same smile and kindness that he has for the last two decades. He greeted me by name and loaned me a Jetboil with no hesitation.

I last rented kayaks from Peter over 15 years ago, since I now have my own vessels.

We Alaskans are having another amazing summer. Get outside. Go kayaking in the spectacular Prince William Sound. Visit Whittier. Good folks like Peter are there to make your adventure special.
