Don’t kill the harmless honeybees

It is general knowledge among beekeepers that honeybees are only mildly dangerous, especially when you trespass the area directly in front of the hive entrance or when the hive is accessed to harvest their hard-won honey stores. I have never heard of anyone stung while strolling about. They will generally warn you by gently bouncing against your head if you get too close for their comfort. Many yellow jacket stings are blamed on honeybees.

If you see a swarm of bees please do not eradicate them. Call 907-406-7768 and a beekeeper will cheerfully remove them for you. If you are severely allergic to insect stings and in danger of anaphylaxis you can obtain a prescription for an auto-injector EpiPen, an emergency injection of epinephrine. Then by all means call 911.

Thanks for the facts on Trump

Thank you, Charles Wohlforth, for your July 19 column which states so clearly the multitude of faults with Donald Trump. We have a great country but we are still learning how to make democracy work. It requires citizens who are willing to invest some time in the governance of our country. That means learning which sources of information are reliable and provide factual information, not just opinion. It means reading a variety of views as well as factual reporting. It means learning how decisions are made and where we can have influence. It means knowing the issues and the candidates before voting.

Yes, it is work. I'd rather do that than live the easy life of limited choices under a dictatorship. Look at the Wohlforth column again — all the negatives about Trump show us what we need in candidates who are proven to hold traits the opposite of those displayed by this man, who is such an embarrassing and terrifying choice for president of our great country.
