Letter: Situation in Gaza is a blot on human history

I don't pretend to understand the complexity of the Israeli/Palestinian situation. But what jumps out at me is that the state of Israel has become rather cruel. Hubris has made the Israeli people blind to the atrocities they are committing against the weak. Hubris has made them forget the tragic experience of the Holocaust, except to bandy it as a tool of self-pity or as a proud reminder of how far they have come from the lows of 20th century.

Hubris has made Israel blind to its faults. It is this that leads to accusations that any anguish at the Israeli actions must be anti-Semitism. It is indeed sad. And it doesn't bode well. The infamy of these grotesque responses to protests will linger on and is another dismal low in President Donald Trump's blind and ignorant legacy. He is prone to splashy moves that please his hardcore base, while ignoring long-term political ramifications. The rest of the world has to bear the brunt of his extremely irresponsible decisions.
