Letter: Make reducing animal-vehicle accidents a priority

Animal accidents are a big danger in Alaska and I think we should do something about it. According to High Country News, 253,000 animal-vehicle accidents happen annually nationwide, killing about 200 people per year. Additionally, it costs thousands of dollars in repairs after a collision with a moose.

My family and I have been in situations almost hitting wild animals and have also known people who have been in accidents involving animals.

You may be wondering, "How do you go about fixing this problem?" I think locations that are highly populated with animals should have fences separating the highway and the forest, like on the Glenn Highway. I understand that following through with my plan would be followed by an expense, but all the lives we will save make up for the price tag.
