Kenai River Dipnetting

The salmon have been returning to the Kenai River in big numbers this week. Dipnetters from all over the state came to share in the bounty.

Subsistence users can dipnet June 1

COPPER CENTER -- Federally qualified subsistence users can start dipping their nets in the Chitina subdistrict of the Copper River June 1.

The fishery in the Upper Copper River District opens 8 p.m. that day and runs through June 7. Eight other openings are scheduled between June and October.

Participants must have a federal permit, available at the National Park Service office in Copper Center or Slana.

The Copper Center office runs a recorded message phone service on the current fishing schedule at 1-907-822-7256.
