KODIAK -- The team of people paving the trail for a 2,000-mile personal watercraft race have called off their trip, short of their goal of reaching Iliamna.
The expedition for the Alaskan Wet Dog Race has been stranded by weather at Wide Bay on the Alaska Peninsula for three days. Instead of continuing, team leader John Lang says they'll head back to Anchorage with a short stopover in Kodiak.
He says they are calling it quits because of time constraints. But, he adds, they are using this as a learning experience as they plan the race, and consider the trip a success in spite of the premature end.
Lang says he remains confident the race will become a reality in the near future.
