A mother black bear with three cubs visited the Faltz Nursery near the Seward Highway and Huffman on Friday August 13, 2010.
Madeline Knowlton took pictures of a sow and three cubs as they explored her house Thursday and Saturday. Saturday morning they tried to get in through a door that they'd gotten in two days before. The sow did serious damage to the door before APD officers shot her and two of the cubs.
Their status as an endangered species is a hot political item, but the images of these rare arctic animals are a breathtaking sight.
