The dog team pulling Iditarod rookie Ben Valks exits the Ambassador Drive tunnel Saturday as the team heads toward Tudor Road. Valks is from Haarlem, Holland and is trained by Iditarod veteran musher Lynda Plettner.

Alaska-based soldiers headed for Afghanistan
Brigade commander Col.
