Kenai River Dipnetting 2011

A dipper works on another fish pulled from the Kenai River Monday, July 18, 2011. An astonishing 230,600 salmon - nearly all sockeyes - on Sunday passed through the sonar counter 19 miles upstream from the mouth.

First salmon of 2011 reaches Seattle

The prized salmon is known for its rich color and taste, and Glenn and other Seattle-area chefs took part in a cooking contest as soon as the fish was taken off the plane.

In an annual tradition that delights fish-eating enthusiasts along the Pacific Northwest coast, the first salmon from the Copper River was flown to Seattle and made ready to eat.
