Goodbye, Grant Hall Gallery
Renovation of the Grant Hall Gallery at Alaska Pacific University is complete -- and with the new walls comes a new name. It will now be known as the ConocoPhillips Gallery. And what better way to consecrate a re-done arts space than with religious art... of a sort. "Lives of the Saints: Contemporary Icons, Reliquaries, and Altarpieces Box Constructions" by Margo Klass, accompanied by texts from Alaska writer Frank Soos, is now on display in the reopened gallery, still at the same location, the entrance to Grant Hall Auditorium.
Next door in APU's Carr-Gottstein Gallery, photographer Denis Keogh has an exhibit of monochrome prints -- photographic in medium, not in subject -- called "Consider the Cone." Which we will. Both shows remain on display for viewing and prayerful offerings through March 29.

20 toe-tappin' years
Last month you saw her dancing on the televised broadcast of the Academy Awards ceremony. At 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday you can catch Anchorage's own Tammy Gibson performing at Dance Spectrum Alaska's Annual Spring Concert. Gibson is one of several DSA alumni who have taken what they learned here to bigger careers Outside. She's back to participate as a dancer and choreographer in the concert that celebrates DSA's 20th Anniversary. The performances will be in the Discovery Theatre and tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for those under 18, available at centertix.net or by calling 344-9545.

Alaska radical
Lena Morrow Lewis was a newspaperwoman, union organizer and Socialist Party politician back in Alaska's younger years. This colorful rabble-rouses is the subject of a new play by Arlitia Jones, "Make Good the Fires," opening at Cyrano's, 413 D St., tonight.
A bevy of talented currently or soon-to-be expatriate Anchorage folk are contributing to this historical biographic. Sara Wagner is returning to the state to play the role of Lewis. Bostin Christopher is back from real acting gigs on national network shows to direct the piece. Jeff McCamish has postponed his departure to California long enough to join the team, which also includes Krista Schwarting.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday through March 29. Tickets, $16 at centertix.net.
