Village voices

"Our Town," Thornton Wilder's classic play about life and afterlife in a small community, continues at Cyrano's this week, 413 D St. Daily News reviewer Maia Nolan cited the acting as a highlight, including: "the performances of three capable, lively young actresses in three very different roles," Kate Williams, Julie-Joy Voss and Lindsey Leonard. "While Leonard's stage time is limited, she has a marvelous presence and it's hard to watch anyone else when she's onstage." Performances continue 7 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 3 p.m. Sun through May 31. Tickets, $16, are available at www.centertix.net or by calling 263-2787.

Quilting Denali

Ellie Henke lives near Mount McKinley and can often be found hanging out at base camps there. But whether in her cabin or a tent, she has her stitching with her. A collection of her quilts is included with a display of quilts celebrating the 50th year of Alaska statehood, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar in Talkeetna. The show is sponsored by the Talkeetna Artists Guild & Denali Arts Council and open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you're driving north for the long weekend, stop by for a look since the Hangar will be hosting it's first outdoor market for the season, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Monday.
