Ooey, gooey, oily, arty
Dozens of people contributed work to "Spill: Alaskan Artists Remember," a traveling invitational exhibit commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The show opened in March at the Bunnell Street Arts Center in Homer, called on several other communities and is winding up at the MTS Gallery, 3142 Mountain View Drive. There will be an opening reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. tonight, with music by Reverse Retro and Japanese opera singer, Mizuyo Toridamari as well as the always tasty snacks from the Tap Root Cafe.

Tickets are $17.50, available at centertix.net or by calling 263-2787. Performances will continue at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 30. Read the review now online at adn.com/artsnob or in Sunday's Life & Arts section.
misc. Dance demo
Twelve local groups and 12 choreographers will each get five minutes to show their stuff at "Breaking Ground," a one-night show presented by Momentum Dance Collective. Performers will include former Miss Alaska Stephanie Wonchala. Styles will range from Salsa to Butoh. If you don't like what you're seeing -- wait five minutes, and they will do something totally different. The single performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Out North, 2800 DeBarr. Admission is $5 at the door.
