Classy cabaret and cheap cabernet
Soprano Julia Cossman and pianists Janet Carr-Campbell and Juliana Osinchuk will perform "Love Tales," a cabaret-style program of love songs by Cole Porter, George Gershwin et al., Sept. 2 at the Whale's Tail in the Hotel Captain Cook. (The Sept. 1 show sold out so fast they had to add this Wednesday performance.) Seating opens at 6 p.m., music starts at 7. Tickets are $25 through KLEF radio, 522-1018. You and your date can enjoy selected appetizers for half price, beer for $3 and $5 for wine -- just in case the romantic program and your own charm aren't doing the trick.
misc. Gitmo info
Will the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay really get shut down by January? Should government officials be prosecuted for torture? Ask Kristine Huskey. The former Alaskan-model/dancer-turned-lawyer will be at Barnes and Noble, 200 East Northern Lights Blvd., starting at 6 p.m. today to sign copies of her new book, "Justice at Guantanamo," and answer questions about her experience defending suspected terrorists.
