Drum roll please. Just in time for summer and those midnight salmon runs to the Kenai, I give to you the Yellow + Blue, 2007, Malbec. Ta da! It's in a one liter tetra pak, the perfect package for Alaska. It's light weight, small, compact and eco-friendly, with a low carbon foot print and organically grown grapes. Yellow + Blue equals green, the whole idea behind J. Soif imports. We need this kind of packaging in the world of wine. But does it taste good? Well, hallelujah, it's wonderful! Straight off you get good black fruit aromas and deep color. The mouth is nicely fleshed and carries a bit of chewy tannin. There is a modicum of complexity, depth and style here placing it solidly in the "serious" wine category. Not just bubbly fruit and alcohol. This juice clearly over-delivers and the packaging is perfect for our Alaska life style. Costs about $10.
