Barefoot

Quick take: Wholesome, attractive and fresh-faced.

Sounds like: Eggshell-delicate harmonies, heartsick lyrics and searing fiddles echoing Alison Krauss and Union Station.

Bio: Bearfoot formed at a summer music camp in Cordova that the players attended as teenagers. Mickelson's mother, a bluegrass musician and camp administrator, scoured the talent and nudged the lineup together in 1999. The group grew from Alaska darlings to glimmers on the national scene in 2001 by winning the Telluride Band Competition in Colorado, a distinction shared by past winners the Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek.
