Celebrated young cellist returns to Alaska

Anchorage Festival of Music's 2008 Young Alaska Artist Award winner, cellist Christopher Hopkins, will perform pieces by Brahms, Beethoven and Schumann at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3900 Wisconsin St.
Hopkins just graduated from the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where he performed as principal cellist for the Juilliard Orchestra, which toured China in June. A native of Fairbanks, Hopkins will begin work on his master's degree in music this fall.
Pianist Juliana Osinchuk will accompany Hopkins during the recital. Admission is by donation ($10-$20), with a portion of proceeds going to the scholarship award program. For more information, call the Anchorage Festival of Music at 276-2465.
