John McCain suggests Romney pick Palin for VP, then laughs

Politico notes that Sen. John McCain joked at his own expense Wednesday on CBS's "This Morning" that the apparent Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney should choose Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate.

McCain, in case you've been under a rock for several years, received heavy criticism for putting then-Gov. Palin on the ticket in his failed 2008 run at the White House.

"I think it should be Sarah Palin," McCain said, breaking into laughter after hosts asked him about Palin's suggestion Tuesday night that the Republican presidential nominee should "go rogue" and choose Rep. Allen West as a running mate.

McCain said he hasn't talked to Palin about getting a second chance to run, but he said there are plenty of talented Republicans to pick a running mate from, mentioning Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal and Mitch Daniels by name.

Asked whether he had any advice in choosing among them for Mitt Romney, whom many now expect to be the candidate in 2012, McCain said "I think that I would obviously tell him … not to rush to judgment for one thing."
