Sarah Palin, Matt Lauer have laid-back fun on 'Today' show

Sarah Palin's interview appearance and co-hosting gig on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday featured self-deprecating humor and a bit of politics, according to numerous reports.

To open the segment, Politico reports, Palin spoofed two of her own more-memorable missteps from the past few years. Today host Matt Lauer checked in with her early on, and she was shown "doing her homework" for her co-hosting duties, holding a huge stack of newspapers and writing notes on her hand.

The newspaper gag was in reference to Palin's failure during a 2008 interview with Katie Couric to name any newspapers or magazines she regularly read. And the notes bit referred to the discovery that she had written talking points on her hand prior to a political speech at the 2010 Tea Party Convention.

Palin also joked that a tourist in front of the building confused her for notable Palin impersonator Tina Fey.

But the talk eventually turned to politics. In a sit-down interview, Lauer asked Palin her thoughts about the Republican presidential primary, which Mitt Romney increasingly appears on his way to clinch.

According to the Today show's official blog, Lauer pressed Palin about whether or not she would endorse Romney, but she pulled short.

"Anything is still possible, but the numbers are what the numbers are," Palin said, adding, "Anybody running on that GOP ticket would be better than Obama."

When asked if she would prefer a more exciting candidate on the GOP ticket, Palin said, "There is no perfect candidate, and I would warn individuals never to put their faith wholly in a politician because that politician will disappoint you."

The interview ended with Palin warning any of the Republican candidates that it doesn't matter who gets the nomination, "They're going to get clobbered by the lame stream media."

Lauer responded that Palin's co-hosting gig officially qualified her as part of the lame stream.
