New bows at UAA
Cellist John Lutterman and violist Lee Wilkins, who have recently taken on professorial duties at the University of Alaska Anchorage, will join violinist Walter Olivares and pianist Timothy Smith in a program that includes Beethoven's "Ghost" Trio and Brahms' Quartet in G Minor. Lutterman will take a solo turn with a Bach suite. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the UAA Fine Arts Building recital hall. General admission is $18 at the door.
Anchorage Community Theatre presents the award-winning play "On Golden Pond," a warm and witty drama about a retired couple whose peace is upended by a visit from their daughter and her boyfriend's teenage son. Henry and Jane Fonda starred as the sparring father and daughter in the acclaimed film. Krista Schwarting directs this local rendition. Tickets are available online at actalaka.org . The shows take place at 7 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 28 at 1133 East 70th Ave.
The Anchorage Museum, 600 C St., will host the Alaska Bead Society's annual Bead Arts Gala, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14. More than 50 beaders from around Alaska will be on hand with lampwork bead handcrafter Honore Buckley. There'll be demonstrations, a table where visitors can make their own bead items and the chance to buy pieces from some the state's premier bead artists. The event is free.
