UPDATE: Police today identified the man as Carl Oxereok Sr., a 39-year-old resident of Mountain View neighborhood.
Anchorage police say they don't believe a man found dead on a road near Valley of the Moon Park early Sunday was the victim of foul play.
A driver called police after finding the man's body in the street near the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and 20th Avenue at 4:30 a.m., said Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.
The man has been identified by police but his name hasn't been released because his next-of-kin have not been notified, Parker said.
The death was initially investigated as suspicious because he had an obvious injury to his head.
"We don't know if it was from falling or someone doing something bad or a car," Parker said.
But investigators have found no evidence of foul play so far, he said.
Alcohol appeared to be involved in the death, Parker said.
An autopsy to determine cause of death is still being conducted. Toxicology tests could take weeks.
Parker said it's unclear how long the man's body had been in the road before the passerby discovered it.
The temperature was about 3 degrees in Anchorage early Sunday, according to National Weather Service records.
