The last big race of the season drew 324 runners Saturday as the inaugural Zombie Half Marathon kicked off at Kincaid Park. Luke Kiskaddon, 35, edged Jason Burkhead, 37, by 23 seconds to win the 13.1-mile race in one hour, 22 minutes, four seconds.
Alexandra Swiatocha, 22, captured the women's race by nearly three minutes, winning in 1:28:24. Kirsten Kolb was second in 1:31:12 and Danelle Winn grabbed third place.
A surprising 324 runners -- many in Halloween costumes -- finished the race at Goose Lake on the final day of October. Most years, the Octoberfest run of late September or early October ends Anchorage's recreational running season -- at least on pavement. The municipal Tuesday Night Race Series continues into early November on cross-country courses.
