The girl, Kieley Towarak, was declared dead at the Unalakleet clinic at 7:30 a.m., according to state troopers. The medical examiner's office plans to do an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Alcohol appears to be involved, troopers say.

"It's suspected to be a factor because the mother had been drinking and she was also in bed with the infant," said trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters. "But the investigation is ongoing."

Peters didn't know if anyone else had been in the home at the time, and wouldn't name the mother because she hasn't been charged with a crime.
