DILLINGHAM -- Five boaters who got stranded in an ice floe on the Nushagak River were rescued safely Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The people were pulled from a 22-foot recreational boat about 15 miles northwest of Dillingham at 8:45 a.m., the Coast Guard said. No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard identified the boaters as Ryan Brannon, George Andrew, Okalina Andrew, Matrona Andrew and Jonathan Vogl, all of New Stuyahok.
They used a VHF radio to call police in Dillingham after becoming stranded in the floe at about 5:40 a.m.
A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an Alaska State Troopers fixed-wing aircraft responded.
The helicopter hoisted them to safety and delivered them to the local airport, where an ambulance brought them to the Naknek clinic, the Coast Guard said.
