Iditarod 2013 - Grayling

GRAYLING -- Based on the times out of this small Yukon River village of 208, Martin Buser had extended his lead in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race to nearly five hours. In second place was Aily Zirkle of Two Rivers, Alaska, who was runner-up in last year's race to Nome.

Persistent, poor weather has kept flights grounded out in Western Alaska for days.

The storm system ended up delaying dog-food drops at checkpoints beyond, including Eagle Island, Kaltag, about 130 miles up the trail. Resting in Grayling, veteran racer DeeDee Jonrowe of Willow talked to Iditarod Race Marshal Mark Nordman, who assured her that the dog food would drop bags would be in Eagle Island when the mushers pulled in.

Jonrowe, running her 31st Iditarod, said she had full faith in Nordman but planned to take extra food anyway.
