On late Tuesday, mushers Mitch Seavey and Aliy Zirkle battled their way to the Nome finish line of the 2013 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

From the air, Alaska Dispatch photographer Loren Holmes captured the action. At the time, it appeared Seavey was destined to win the 2013 Iditarod, his second victory in a decade.

His father, Dan, ran the first Iditarod back in 1973 and placed third. In 2012, his son Dallas won and became the youngest Iditarod champion ever.
