Wrestlers and coaches from Colony High woke up Saturday morning facing a nightmarish deficit at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament. By Saturday night, the Knights were living the dream.
"They had a perfect day today," said South head coach Tom Ritchie, whose team amassed a huge lead on Friday's opening day but finished second after a sparkling performance by the champion Knights on Saturday.
Colony's depth -- combined with a disappointing South showing in the finals -- was the difference in the Knights' 8.5-point win at Chugiak High. The Knights had more place-winners than any other team and won as many individual titles as the Wolverines despite sending four fewer wrestlers into the finals.
