Photos: Alaskans dedicate weekly 5K to Boston bombing victims

Skinny Raven's weekly 5K Pub Run took on a special meaning Tuesday night as over 350 Anchorage-area runners showed up, many to honor the three people who died and more than 170 who were injured in the terrorist bomb attack at Monday's Boston Marathon.

Among the dead were 8-year-old Martin Richard of Dorchester, Mass., who had been watching near the finish line, and Krystle Campbell, 29, of Arlington, Mass., another spectator. The third person who died was identified as a Chinese woman, who was a graduate student at Boston University.

Many runners who showed up Tuesday night had heard about the event on Facebook, and planned on making the Pub Run a regular part of their week. Some runners wore shirts from other marathons, including the Boston marathon. Others showed up in Boston Red Sox gear. One runner even painted a black dot on her face, three on her left cheek for those who died and over 170 on her right for those injured.

Forty-one runners from across Alaska were entered in this year's Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Athletic Association roster, with no injuries reported.

Skinny Raven's free 5K Pub Run happens every Tuesday during the summer, with registration at the Skinny Raven running store downtown. The run ends at McGinley's Pub, and late-comers can register at the bar.
