Captain Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, spoke to students at the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program's 20th anniversary celebration on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at UAA. Cernan, a NASA astronaut who commanded the Apollo 17 mission and piloted the Apollo 10 and Gemini 9A missions, spoke to the students about the importance of dreaming big and making the most of their chances. "Opportunities are going to come your way," he said. "Don't let too many opportunities go by without taking a shot at them." ANSEP is a program founded in 1995 to help guide Alaska Native students into careers in science and engineering through professional mentoring, work projects, internships and social activities. They also host programs for middle school and high school students.
