Photos: Authorities seal off Oregon refuge after militant leaders arrested, 1 killed in gunfire

JOHN DAY, Ore. — Law enforcement officials have erected roadblocks around the federal wildlife refuge that was seized by armed anti-government protesters, hours after one of the group's spokesmen was killed and its leader, Ammon Bundy, and seven others were arrested, some after being stopped on a rural highway in eastern Oregon.

The roadblocks may be intended to prevent others from entering to the refuge and joining the protest, as the occupiers have called on supporters to do. Law enforcement officials called on those who remain at the refuge to go home, but it was unclear whether the removal of the group's leaders would hasten the end of the standoff.
