In Anchorage, residents worked, played, relaxed and celebrated on Christmas Day after a morning snow squall gave way to afternoon sun and warmth.
Not everyone, however, had the day off. At the Ship Creek boat launch just north of downtown, Dan Butts, 38, was getting ready to drive home to Seward in the afternoon. He'd just finished a weeklong shift as a captain aboard the Stellar Wind, an 85-foot tugboat with a crew of six that helps ships navigate their way through the waters of Cook Inlet.
In Midtown, Jeanette DiPiero was working too, at Leroy's Family Restaurant, where nearly every booth and spot at the counter was occupied.
"Days special," the sign outside read. "Open Xmas."
