With the state championship on the line, Chugiak Mustangs pitcher Jimmy Lanier was in a first-inning jam: Two men on base, nobody out, a mounting pitch count and South slugger Willy Homza at the plate.

Homza hit a shot to right field. Chugiak's Zach Brueggemann got a late jump on the ball but snared it with a diving catch that robbed Homza of a hit and likely cost the Wolverines a run.

And just like that, Lanier's jam turned into a gem.
