Photos: Drowned polar bear in Arctic Ocean

These photos contain images of a single dead bear observed by Dr. Charles Monnett and his colleague, Jeff Gleason, during an aerial survey on Sept. 14, 2004. At the time, the scientist called this the "Pillsbury Dough Bear" because the images were so poor. The crew circled a few times to get the images, but did not continue taking subsequent pictures of other dead bears because the image quality was so poor. They felt they're naked eye observations were better at the time.
