The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a 24-hour-a-day operation, and just because the sun disappears below the horizon, that doesn't mean activity around the checkpoints slows down. Mushers snack and bootie their dogs as race officials and volunteers keep things running smoothly -- a hum of activity that lights up the night along the trail.
