Sunday evening brought Anchorage its "first official measurable snowfall of the season," according to a statement from the National Weather Service's Alaska Region Headquarters. Snow continued to fall through Monday afternoon, bringing up to 9 inches in Anchorage's higher elevations.

By 5:45 a.m. Monday, snowfall in the Anchorage Bowl and surrounding areas ranged from 0.3 inches in Eagle River to 7 inches at a Hillside location south of O'Malley Road. Turnagain Pass was reporting 8 inches.

Snow was melting Monday afternoon as temperatures hovered above freezing. Kochevar said the accumulation would continue to melt through Tuesday as sunnier skies moved overhead.
