Photos: Pumpkin weigh-off at Alaska State Fair

The morning of the 10th Midnight Sun Pumpkin Weigh-Off at the Alaska State Fair, Dale Marshall wrapped straps around both of his pumpkins to move them onto a trailer on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015.

The smaller of the two pumpkins he planned on entering in the contest was put onto his trailer without issue, but the bigger of the two proved to be more difficult. As the larger pumpkin swung about 13 feet in the air, the straps attaching it to the crane snapped and Marshall's pumpkin fell to ground, smashed.

"Today, in two seconds, I lost five months of work," Marshall said.

His smaller pumpkin weighed in at 965 pounds, but was disqualified for having a hole. The Anchorage pumpkin grower guessed his larger pumpkin would have weighed about 1,250 to 1,300 pounds.
