Cross-country skiing
Approximately 243 athletes from 27 delegations are expected to compete in the 50-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 1600-meter, 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer and relay races at Kincaid Park, March 4-10.
Kincaid Park is home to 1,500 acres of trails and scenic wilderness. There are more than 60 kilometers of marked and maintained cross-country ski trails, and the park is certified by the International Ski Federation for World Cup competition.

Snowshoeing
Approximately 91 athletes from seven delegations are expected to compete in 50-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter, 1,600-meter, 1-kilometer, 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer, 7-kilometer and 10-kilometer races and a 4x100-meter relay at Kincaid Park, March 4-11.
Kincaid Park's trails are part of the award-winning trail system of the Municipality of Anchorage and are also popular for multiuse sports during the summer months. The park is open seven days a week and has served more than 1 million users during the past 12 years.

Federal Express Hangar

Floor hockey
Approximately 695 athletes from 46 delegations are expected to compete in traditional and unified floor hockey events at the Federal Express hangar, March 4-11.
The Federal Express hangar is an 80,000 square-foot facility, typically used for general airplane maintenance. The building, large enough to house a 747 airplane, is 95-feet tall at its highest point and is located at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

Tesoro Sports Centre

Figure skating
Approximately 154 athletes from 16 delegations are expected to compete in the singles, pairs, dance and guest skater dance events at the Tesoro Sports Centre, March 6-10.
The Tesoro Sports Centre is Anchorage's newest ice facility. Built in November 1999, the Centre has two National Hockey League-size ice rinks and a 920 foot running track.

A year-round popular recreation area, Hilltop Ski Area is located 15 minutes from downtown Anchorage. Hilltop has a slope distance of 2,090 feet and a vertical elevation of 294 feet.

The Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center is a $4.8 million, 38,000 square-foot, 700-seat facility with a 111-meter Olympic-size ice sheet and a walking/jogging track. "The Mac" serves Eagle River, a population of approximately 35,000 people.

Alyeska Resort

Alpine Skiing
Approximately 288 athletes from 33 delegations are expected to compete in the walk, glide, super glide and downhill events at Alyeska Resort, March 4-10.
Alyeska Resort is a full-service, year-round destination recreation resort with an average annual snowfall of 560 inches. The resort houses nine lifts and a 60-passenger tram that transports passengers to the top of the mountain in as little as 4 1?2 minutes.

Parking details
Parking during the 2001 Special Olympics World Winter Games - Alaska is free at all competition venues.
Parking in the downtown area is very limited. If you are traveling to Special Olympics Town at the Egan Center, park at People Movers Sixth Avenue Transit Center.
Be advised that the downtown area will be a focal point of all athlete transportation. Several Laidlaw school buses will transport athletes around the downtown area on a daily basis.
