Midtown skate oval almost ready for action
Crews are applying the final coats of water to the Midtown Speedskating Oval so it can open this weekend. Some skaters have already tested the 400-meter oval in the Cuddy Family Midtown Park. Despite a few cracks and bumps, it's fine for skating.

The first NCAA tournament win in school history appeared to be slipping from the Seawolves' grasp Thursday, but the UAA volleyball team regrouped in time to salvage a dramatic five-set win over Hawaii Hilo.

After missing the Alaska Aces' first 14 hockey games with a broken left hand suffered blocking a shot in an exhibition game six weeks ago, Jason Ryznar, the former NHLer from Anchorage tonight makes his ECHL debut on the road against Bakersfield.

UAA's Grant hopes to get out of his goal-scoring drought
Before UAA's hockey practice began in earnest Thursday afternoon, Tommy Grant laughingly spent some time sprawled in front of one net, kicking out his legs and flailing his arms as teammates gently nudged pucks on goal.

Ben Russell scored a power-play goal with 3:39 left in the third period to lift Eagle River into a 5-5 tie against Hutchison in the End of the Road Shootout in Homer.
