ACS's Kaltenbach soars to two titles in Region III championships

Lane Kaltenbach of Anchorage Christian soared to victories in the long jump and high jump Friday at the Region III track and field championships at Colony High School.

Kaltenbach was the only double-winner during first-day action. The meet features competition at both the Class 4A and Class 3A levels.

ACS also earned 3A titles in the girls discus, won by Amir Williams with a toss of 106 feet, 4 inches, and the girls 3,200 meters, won by Elisabeth Balsan in 11:25.54.

Other 3A champions crowned included Seward's Hunter Kratz (10:09.53 in the 3,200), Nikiski's Luke Johnson (45-0.5 in shot put), Nikiski's Arianne Parrish (16-4 in long jump) and Valdez's Kassandra Howard (4-10 in high jump).

In Class 4A competition, Kodiak's Keith Osowski (9:56.81) and Kenai's Ithaca Bergholtz (11:52.31) captured the 3,200-meter titles.

Kodiak's Kordell Pillans won the boys shot put (54-10) and Kenai's Abby Beck took the girls discus (126-5).

High jump victories went to Colony's Brandon Nicholson (5-10) and Wasilla's Ceil Dunleavy (5-4), and long jump wins went to Kenai's Josh Jackman (21-3.25) and Colony's Chase Stephens (16-5).
