Briahna Gerlach's 3,200 time beats the boys in Region II

Glennallen runner Briahna Gerlach stole the show Friday at the Region II track and field championships in Talkeetna.

She crushed the field in the 3,200 meters, winning by more than three minutes with a time that was four seconds faster than the winning time in the boys race.

Gerlach, a junior, finished in 11 minutes, 6.61 seconds. Victory in the boys race went to Sean Dorsey, who clocked 11:10.61.

Holy Rosary Academy of Anchorage boasted a double winner in Sarah Lucas, who grabbed titles in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and long jump (17-0.75). Michael Lucas of Holy Rosary won the boys long jump in 17-6.5.

Other individual winners included Birchwood Christian's Jonathan Sladko (4-10 in high jump), Su Valley's Marshall Pinard (115-1 in discus) and Tri Valley's Olivia Juhl (81-5 in discus).

Competition continues Saturday.
