East's Daisy Page is Gatorade softball Player of the Year

The Page girls continue to prosper on Alaska's softball fields.

East High sophomore Daisy Page, a right-handed pitcher and powerful hitter, has been named Gatorade Alaska Softball Player of the Year, the award her sister, Taria, won for the Thunderbirds in 2015 and 2014.

Daisy Page, who leads the T-birds into the state high school large-school tournament starting Friday in Fairbanks, is 23-3 with a 1.41 earned-run average and 193 strikeouts in 124 innings pitched. She's averaging .581 and has belted three home runs, scored 30 runs and delivered a 1.041 slugging percentage.

Page owns a 3.83 grade-point average, is involved in her church and coaches youth softball.

With two more years of prep eligibility, she could continue a recent trend of Alaska players who have won the Gatorade award multiple times. Besides two-time winner Taria Page, West's Pauline Tufi won the award three straight years (2011-13) and Juneau's Brittany Fenumiai won in consecutive years (2009-10).
