Dimond, East advance to BP Invitational Legion baseball semifinals

Dimond and East will face each other in the semifinals of the BP Invitational Legion baseball tournament Sunday for the chance to play either Ohio or Washington in the 6:30 p.m. championship.

The Lynx are 3-0 and the Thunderbirds are 2-1 through two days of tournament play.

East 10, Eagle River 4, 6 innings

East shortstop Balas Buckmaster scored twice and drove in two runners to propel the Thunderbirds to a 10-4 win over Eagle River on Saturday in a tournament game at Mulcahy Stadium.

Balau Buckmaster hurled 4 1/3 innings, striking out four batters while allowing four hits. Gaten Davis struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Eagle River's Brady Olmstead tallied two runs, a RBI, triple and stolen base.

Dimond 12, Ohio 7

Kyle Henrickson went 4 for 5 with three RBIs to help Dimond repel Ohio 12-7.

The Lynx took the lead for good with five runs in the fifth inning.

Sean Carey, Jacob Andresen, Conor Bates-Janigo and Isaiah Mills each scored two runs for Dimond.

South 8, Ohio 6

Derrick McGinnis' big bat boosted South in an 8-6 win over Ohio.

McGinnis walloped a three-RBI double and scored one run to lead the Wolverines in their six-run second inning.

Josh Costello added two RBIs and one run for South.

Ohio was led by Alex Gerken, who drove in two runs and scored once.

Service 13, Eagle River 1, 6 innings

Ronan Klancher led Service with four RBIs and four pitchers combined to hold Eagle River to one hit in the Cougars' 13-1 victory.

Service tallied 14 hits and nine runs spanning the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to put the mercy rule in effect.

Christian Fredrick provided Eagle River's lone hit in the first inning and scored in the sixth inning by stealing home plate.

Washington 11, East 1, 5 innings

Washington scored six runs in the fifth inning to force the mercy rule in an 11-1 win over East.

Scott Golden led Washington with two RBIs and two runs.

Ricky Gatter drove in Balau Buckmaster for East's only run in the first inning.
