Nunaka Valley girls wins twice to begin Little League West Regional

Nunaka Valley's junior softball team won two games Friday on the opening day of the Little League West Regional tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

The Anchorage girls, ages 12 to 14, beat Apache Junction of Arizona 10-5 and topped Cedar American of Utah 7-4.

In the win over Arizona, Lexie Davis pitched all seven innings and struck out seven. Laila Tosi drove in four runs and Pese Matautia drove in three.

Davis threw another complete game against Utah, striking out four.

Nunaka Valley is one of three Alaska teams at regional tournaments this week.

At the West Regional softball tournament for girls ages 9-12 in San Bernardino, California, Juneau dropped a 10-6 decision to Northern California.

At the intermediate baseball tournament for boys ages 12-13 in Nogales, Arizona, Abbott-O-Rabbit of Anchorage won a game and lost a game Friday to move to 2-1 in the tournament.

Abbott-O-Rabbit won its first game Friday by beating Washington 15-6. The Alaskans broke open the game with a six-run sixth inning that featured singles by Dylan Maltby, Curtis Hebert and Luke Ivanoff and a double by Lucas Wilkins.

Abbott-O-Rabbit followed the win with a 19-6 loss to Northern California. Maddux Soland led the Alaskans with three hits and two RBIs.

On Wednesday, Abbott O Rabbit defeated Oregon 5-1.
