Hebard helps US to easy win in U-19 world hoops tourney

Ruthy Hebard of Fairbanks was the top rebounder and was one of five players to score in double figures Sunday, helping the United States to its second straight victory at the FIBA U-19 World Cup women's basketball tournament in Italy.

Hebard, a West Valley graduate who is coming off a stellar freshman season at Oregon, posted 11 points and nine rebounds in a 91-51 rout of China.

Hebard hit 5 of 9 shots, blocked a shot and tallied two assists and two steals. Joyner Holmes led the Americans in scoring with 14 points.

The U.S. held China to 15 points in the first half.
