New goalie helps Aces to 4-1 exhibition victory over Stingrays

A newcomer in the net and a returner making his first appearance of the season helped the Alaska Aces to a 4-1 win in their final ECHL exhibition game Thursday night at Sullivan Arena.

Goaltender Kevin Carr, acquired from the Tulsa Oilers in a late-summer trade, stopped 34 shots in his Aces debut and Stephen Perfetto, back from an AHL training camp, scored two goals and two assists to lead the Aces past the South Carolina Stingrays.

The victory spared the Aces of a third straight loss to the Stingrays. Alaska opens its regular season next week with games Friday and Saturday in Colorado.

Ben Lake gave the Aces a 1-0 lead in the first period by redirecting a pass by Perfetto. It was the third goal of the series for Lake, who scored a goal in each game.

Perfetto, who rejoined the team this week, made it 2-0 early in the second period. Assists went to Peter Sivak and Tim Wallace, the former NHL player who signed with the Aces earlier on Thursday.

South Carolina cut Alaska's lead to 2-1 on a short-handed strike by Mads Eller in the second period.

Perfetto got his second assist in the third period on a goal by Sivak. Ryan Trenz also got an assist on the goal.

Perfetto, Alaska's No. 2 scorer last season, behind Sivak, added an empty-net goal with 45 seconds remaining.
