James Paxton and Zach Quate combined on a masterful one-hitter Friday night as the Anchorage Glacier Pilots thumped the AIA Fire 10-0 at Mulcahy Stadium.
Paxton pitched the first five and did not allow a baserunner. Quate came on and took the perfect game into the seventh before allowing a leadoff walk.
But Quate got a popout and double play to keep the no- hitter going into the eighth.
That's when the Fire's Tobias Strech laced a leadoff double down the left-field line.
But that's all the Fire got as Quate closed the deal for a four-inning save.
The Pilots scored four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to give Paxton and Quate ample breathing room. Four AIA errors helped the Pilots along.
