Haar wins it in 9th for Pilots with single

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots continued to rule the Alaska Baseball League on Tuesday night, using Brian Haar's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 4-3 win over the Fairbanks Goldpanners at Mulcahy Stadium.

Todd Sebek's single off Panners reliever Ben Jones with one out in the ninth ignited the home team's rally. Joseph Terdoslavich's single advanced Sebek to second base, and he scored on Haar's single.

The league-leading Pilots have won 10 of their last 11 league games and 13 of their last 15.

Pilots reliever Zachary Quarte picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief.

The Pilots have a five-game lead over the Mat-Su Miners and the Peninsula Oilers.

Oilers 3, Fire 2, 10 innings

Vince Belnome's RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning helped the Peninsula Oilers snap a four-game skid and rally to beat Athletes In Action on Tuesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

The third baseman belted Brett Hoogkamp's pitch off the wall with two outs to score Trey Dennis and give Oilers reliever Brandon Berl his first victory of the season.

The Fire, looking to capture their third straight win in the first meeting against the Oilers, took a 2-1 lead into the bottom half of the ninth inning.

But Belnome crushed a leadoff triple that took one hop over the wall. Two batters later, catcher Kawika Emsley-Pai singled and scored Belnome to send the game into extras.

Hot-hitting Brint Hardy put AIA ahead 2-1 after leading off the top half of the sixth inning with a triple to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Bucs-Miners game suspended

The Anchorage Bucs and Mat-Su Miners could not decide things in 13 innings Tuesday night, when their 3-3 tie was halted by darkness and scheduled to be completed later this month at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

The game will be continued at 4 p.m. on July 26, when the Bucs are scheduled to be back at Hermon Brothers for a game later that night.

Bucs reliever Hank Buenrostro surrendered the tying run in the ninth inning on Ty Rasmussen's sacrifice fly, but that was slight damage considering the Miners loaded the bases with no outs. Buenrostro got D.J. Gentile to ground into an inning-ending double play and did not give up another run in his 5 2/3 innings of relief.

The Miners likewise received stout relief pitching. Steven Fischback allowed one unearned run in five innings and Michael Rocha provided two scoreless innings.

Miners first baseman Troy Scott drove in three runs, bagging a two-run single in the third and an RBI single in the fifth.
